Oregon CDOP Recognizes 11 Days of Nonviolence
 
Nearly 100 years before the World Trade Towers became associated with Sept. 11, Mohandas K. Gandhi launched the modern nonviolent movement on Sept 11, 1906. Gandhi's ability to overcome injustice without resorting to violence inspired millions throughout the century to do the same. These collective achievements provide the hope and promise that there is indeed another way. The Eugene Campaign for a Department of Peace is pleased to partner with the Peace Alliance in this anniversary tribute by coordinating the following series of events to Honor Nonviolence from Sept. 11, 2006 to Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace.

Troops Home Fast  Code Pink, fasting at the Federal Building, 7th and Pearl, on an ongoing basis throughout the days of Honoring Nonviolence. All are welcome to join us in fasting, chanting, singing, and reading from women peace writers.  We will honor the vigils and meditations of others. Please look for our banner and "Troops Home Fast" signs and join us!

Interfaith Community Breakfast, Lane Institute of Faith and Education, at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St., Eugene. Four local religious leaders will offer brief reflections on Pulling Together or Pulling Apart? Successes and enrichments, challenges and obstacles of interfaith work for the personal and collective spiritual journey. The vegetarian
breakfast will be catered by Café Soriah. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Café Soriah, the First United Methodist Church and First Christian Church, Eugene. Reduced priced tickets ($5) are also available for those willing to assist in set up and clean up. Vigil and Fast for World Healing, A silent circle of meditation at the Federal Building, 7th and Pearl, Eugene.  In the spirit of Gandhi, we take suffering upon ourselves and attempt never to inflict it on others. We will sit in grief for the war, death, and poverty that our country is inflicting in many parts of the world.  With our Ribbon of Tangible Hope, we pray for a future where compassion, generosity and peace can grow and bloom.
