11 DAYS OF
GLOBAL UNITY
11 Days is an annual worldwide promotion of peace and sustainability
launched in 2004 by We, The World with more than 200 concerts,
festivals, webcasts, and other events culminating on Sept. 21 the U.N. International
Day of Peace. Supporters of the launch included Nobel Peace Laureate
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jane Goodall, Deepak Chopra, Irene Khan
(Secretary General of Amnesty International), Marianne Williamson, John
McConnell (the original Founder of Earth Day), Hazel Henderson,
and many others.
This year 11 Days will be bigger than ever. We are collaborating
with many groups including the MK Gandhi
Institute and the Association for Global
New Thought to promote the 100 year Anniversary of Gandhi's first
nonviolent action Sept. 11th and the 10th year of the Season for Nonviolence.
Events are being planned for each of the 11 Days starting with an Interfaith
Ceremony Sept. 11th with Arun Gandhi on the mall in Washington
DC.
Earthdance will celebrate
their 10th Anniversary on the weekend of Sept. 16th with Arun Gandhi
appearing at their hub event to start "The Gandhi Tour". Earthdance
is part of 11 Days with 222 events in 50 countries. The Peace
Alliance will be launching it's Peace Registry and will also
have events during the 11 Days. And 11 Days 2006 culminates on the 25th
Observance of the International Day of Peace with thousands of concerts,
vigils, conferences, marches and service projects planned around the world.
