Vision
Imagine 1000's of organizations and businesses that work for peace
and sustainability establishing such collaborative working relationships
and being so well linked around the world that a success in one region is
soon modeled in dozens of others!
Imagine those organizations participating in global events that
take place several times a year, with substantial media coverage, in which
visionaries, activists, artists, celebrities, diplomats, socially responsible
business leaders, forward thinking government officials, and the general
public come together to celebrate, share information and take action regarding
issues that affect the whole planet!
Now imagine after each event thousands of new people get involved,
and eventually millions swell the ranks (and fill the coffers) of non-profit
peace and environmental organizations and sustainable businesses worldwide,
transforming society and themselves, consciously and collectively using their
buying power, their voting power and their people power to move us
visibly toward a world that works for all!
We can imagine it because we're beginning to make it happen! We've put
together a practical strategy and an incredible team to carry it out!
Strategy
THE BIG
PICTURE
Internationally coordinated efforts to expand global markets and military
operations have resulted in a catastrophic increase in poverty, violence,
species destruction, and damage to our environment. This constitutes an ethical
and spiritual crisis that transcends national boundaries. To address this,
We, The World is committed to a global strategy (see below) that can galvanize people around the world to awareness and action while
fostering personal growth and transformation - without which societal change
cannot take place.
MISSION
The mission of We, The World is to maximize social change on a global scale. We are working to awaken a spirit of caring and involvement
in the public so that millions of people begin to see themselves as part of
one global interdependent community - and actively take part in creating a
world that works for all!
Working with an extraordinarily accomplished team,
we have begun the process of building an unprecedented critical mass of
individuals, organizations and coalitions whose efforts to create a caring
world will be highly visible and accessible.
We are beginning by forming global networks
of collaboration between groups and individuals involved with: human
rights, ecology and animal concerns, peace and nonviolence, creating ethical
economic systems, creating cultures of caring, self-sustaining green communities,
personal and societal transformation, and many others whose work concerns
the interests of literally billions of people and other life on our planet.
OBJECTIVE
We, The World intends to create something the world has not seen before
- a large scale, ethics-driven movement that broadcasts the following crucial
message: A significant portion of humanity is becoming actively engaged in
building a world in which every life matters.
This message is necessary to halt and reverse the "common sense" that increasingly
dominates our planet: look out for yourself no matter what the consequences
for other people, animals or our environment.
THE POWER WE EACH HAVE
Part of our goal is to cultivate a new sense of understanding about each
individual's impact on and power to influence the world's social, economic
and environmental systems - which affect all life on Earth.
Many people in the countries that control the most resources are unaware
of all the effects of their common, everyday activities. In the United States,
for example, few people realize that buying a single hamburger pays for
the clearing of up to an estimated 55 square feet of rainforest to
raise cattle - thereby killing the plants, animals, and sometimes the humans
that lived there.
Individually and collectively, we have the power to transform the world
by becoming conscious consumers and citizens, and by "being the change we

INVOLVING THE PUBLIC IN A GLOBAL INTEGRATED MOVEMENT
Real change requires increasingly massive public involvement and transformation
which politicians, multi-national corporations, and the commercial media
can no longer ignore. This means integrating our efforts and letting the
public know about it in new and creative ways. (See Programs Overview)
To achieve mass public involvement, We, The World is connecting innumerable pathways around the many formidable obstacles to creating a caring planet. You are one of these pathways! Thank you for your commitment to building a better world.
OUR MULTI-FACETED,
INTERNATIONALLY IMPLEMENTED STRATEGY
We, The World's strategy has two major components:
* Creating global networks
of collaboration between those working for peace, sustainability
and transformation.
* Utilizing these networks in an ongoing series of highly publicized
Public International
Events to inspire, inform and involve large numbers of people in
this work.
This integrated strategy is designed to more effectively advance the
processes of personal and societal transformation that will allow people
to live in harmony with each other and with the rest of nature.
How can we get there from here?
With the support of Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu and
Honorary Co-Chairs Jane Goodall, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Hazel
Henderson, Robert Thurman and others, We, The World's team of major
event organizers has launched a convergence of local and global consciousness-raising
festivals, concerts, civic actions, and other activities called 11 Days of Global Unity Sept.
11 - 21 (the International Day of Peace). See 11 Days for details. Each year 11 Days
has had over 200 associated events in more than 80 countries. With Our Voices, Our
World we are combining performance, consciousness-raising and action
with periodic multi-city events during the year as well.
At We, The World we believe building mass public involvement (especially
in the wealthiest countries) is a critical strategy not sufficiently developed
in current peace and sustainability initiatives.
Most civil society organizations and coalitions lack the public support
(resources and political will) to effectively and comprehensively address
root causes in order to end poverty, violence, ecological damage and other
crises that affect all life on earth.
We feel that these problems will persist and could get substantially worse
during the next 20 years until a "critical mass" of concerned people
is formed and becomes aware of itself. These people (about 2% worldwide,
particularly in the wealthiest countries) will be inspired to increase their
understanding of complex global issues and begin to see themselves individually
and collectively as the leading edge of an international movement that generates
political will and the enlightened consumer power needed to create a world
that truly works for all.
What's needed to achieve mass public involvement?
11 Days of Global Unity and
the continuing series of Public International
Events will have elements that address each of the components necessary
to build public involvement in creating a peaceful sustainable world, especially
in countries that control the most resources. Briefly, and in broad terms,
they are:
ENGAGE AND INSPIRE THE PUBLIC using an ongoing series
of theme-based multi-country concerts, festivals and celebrations (starting
with 11 Days) that open hearts, capture
the imaginations of the millions of people and begin to build a sense of
global community.
RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT ISSUES THAT AFFECT US ALL.at
these global events, with accompanying major media exposure and through promotion
of alternative media sources of information.
INVOLVE LARGE NUMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IN INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE
ACTIONS during concerts and festival events, including a) coordinated
civic actions that generate political will, and b) building ongoing
broad support for civil society organizations. Over time this direct public
involvement will benefit individuals and society by:
Accomplishing much-needed achievements in the areas of:
insuring basic human needs are met worldwide; ecology and animal concerns;
creating ethical economic systems which foster business responsibility regarding
labor, the environment and other areas; creating sustainable green communities;
renewable non-polluting energy source development and funding; promoting
holistic health; interfaith dialogue; spiritual renewal; and many other areas
concerning the interests of people and other life around the world.
Inspiring a sense of meaning and purpose for participants.
Dissolving cynicism and powerlessness while building optimism
about the future.
Accelerating the cultural shift toward supporting sustainable
and life affirming social, economic and political institutions whose bottom
line is the well-being of all people and other life.
FOSTER PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION by:
Promoting holistic health of one's mind, body and spirit.
Encouraging authentic, compassionate, nonviolent communication and
connection with self and others.
Increasing understanding about the critical connections between personal
health, societal health and the well-being of all life on Earth.

At We, The World we very much appreciate the generosity supporters have
shown in the past. They have made it possible for us to successfully engage
in Student-UN Videoconferences, conference and other event production and
promotion, information dissemination, presentations at conferences and other
gatherings, television production, and many other activities of benefit to
civil society and the public.
Now we have an opportunity to combine all these individual activities and
bring them to the next level in the production of 11 Days of Global Unity.
You can play a major role in launching this strategy. With the potential
to create a Turning Point in the global movement to create a peaceful
