Join us at this third gathering of Common Ground, where we will co-create an inter-faith community through shared ritual, group creative process, guided experiential practices, and dialogues of discovery. Together we will explore structures, methods, and principles for InterSpiritual activism, so that we may move the work of world peace forward as a cohesive unit. This meeting will also be a tribute to Brother Wayne Teasdale, who inspired and guided the founding of both InterSpiritual Dialogue (ISD) and Common Ground, and who transitioned last year. Some of Brother Wayneıs core teachings will be illuminated through experiential meditation and contemplation. In addition to presenters Keating, Borysenko, Flowers, and Hayashi, representatives of constituencies that Wayne supported will voice their remembrances.

Cosmos and Consciousness III:
The Cosmology of Love---9:30 a.m.‹5:30 p.m
The MarionTownMusic Hall
164 Front Street
MarionMA

Love calls us to a higher vision, one that is needed more urgently now than ever.  It may seem unrealistic to look to Love for solutions to the problems we are experiencing on Earth.  But nothing could be more realistic.  Love is the foundation from which we can build a more livable and lovable home.
Around the world, people have long praised their own civilizations and cultures.  It may be that true civilization and culture have not yet been developed.  It may well be that a cosmology of love is required before they can flourish.

Our conference features four inspiring guests.
Angeles Arrien, PhD, world-renowned cross-cultural anthropologist and author
James OıDea, the president of  the Institute of Noetic Sciences
Kenneth Hamilton, MD, founder of the New England healing group H.O.P.E.
August T. Jaccaci, author, futurist and social architect
Trish Corbett and Michael Mannion, co-founders of The Mindshift Institute,

The general admission $100 for the say and Student admission is $45. Group Discounts and Limited Income Discounts are available.

A Simple Case of Mistaken Identity:
A Day Long Return With Loch Kelly

New York Insight Meditation Center
28 w. 27th St., 10th fl (between Bıway and 6th Ave.

Manhattan, New York City

Preregistration at www.nyimc.org (click on retreat) or at the door on the day of the event
Fee: $40 plus Teacher Donation

Instead of retreating from life, this daylong event is an invitation to return to that which we have always been and to include everything. The ego functioning mind has become exhausted and confused in trying to get it right and to be somebody. This is revealed to be a simple case of mistaken identity. Ego functioning mind is not our identity. Our true identity is already free and happy for no reason. It does not need to be developed or improved upon, but simply recognized and realized. In this experiential day, Loch will draw upon Buddhist practices from Vipassana, Zen, Mahamudra, and Dzogchen and will include meditation exercises, talk, questions, and dialogue.

There will be a ³glowing away² party following the event at 5:30 (whether you attend or not).   Loch and Paige are moving to Half Moon BayCA (just south of San Fran).  Please feel free to bring an appetizer, snack or just bring yourself! If you bring food to the retreat, please know there is no refrigeration.

Loch will also be returning to New York  for a Daylong event on Saturday December 3rd.

Please visits Loch's website for upcoming events: www.lochkelly.org

Byron Peace Carnival

Byron Shire and the Rainbow Region

Australia

www.byronpeacecarnival.com

The Spirit of Peace is a fundamental value to the quality of life for the communities of the Byron Shire and the Rainbow Region. The Byron Peace Carnival celebrates this culture of Peace as a showcase for ideas, art, ingenuity and creativity in pursuit of peaceful living and focuses on the challenges and opportunities for living in peace ‹ within our community and with the rest of the planet. The Byron Peace Carnival offers a full interactive day with a rally, street pageant, entertainment, arts, games, information and colourful displays to inform, educate and excite. It will be a full day of fun for the whole family to share skills, interests and activities, learning better ways to live on the earth.

During the 2005 Byron Peace Carnival, The World Peace Flame will be the focus of a prayer vigil on 17th September and of the walk and peace celebrations on Sunday, 18th September.

The World Peace Flame was created in 1999 when seven flames were lit by indigenous elders, peacemakers and royalty from all continents and were flown, with the help of military air forces across the globe to be united as one eternally burning flame in North Wales

The World Peace Flame has since been carried back into the world as a unifying symbol of the deep yearning that all people have for peace.  This flame has been presented to millions of people in homes, schools, work areas and in war zones; and to community leaders, foreign embassies, government departments, ministers, prime ministers and presidents in places of decision making.

As part of the Byron Peace Carnival festivities, the World Peace Flame will be installed as a permanent fixture in the Byron Bay Community Centre - an eternal flame for peace burning in the heart of Byron Shire. This will be the first Australian World Peace Flame monument accessible to the public, and one of only eight in the world.

Peace Site Declared!

September 18, 2005

The Ethical Culture Society of Queens will declare itself a Peace Site today, joining hundreds of towns, community organizations, and religious institutions across the world also committed to peace.

"In becoming a Peace Site, we declare our firm opposition to unjust wars, unmitigated violence, and unfounded fear as a way of life. We turn affirmatively to the hard work of creating a more peaceful world.  Let this humble place be a home to all those who seek peace, both today and for many years to come."

"Alone, we are weak. Together, we will light the way.  And so we are proud to stand with the millions who are committed to bringing peace to this violent world of ours--we join today with the 11 Days of Peace 2005 movement to celebrate the true peaceful potential of humanity," said David M. Reis, Leader of the Society.

The Peace Site movement, founded in 1981 by Father Berrigan and others at the Ethical Culture Society of Essex County in Maplewood NJ, today numbers hundreds of institutions with a shared commitment to the concept of creating "peace bases" as a means of sanctuary, and as a means of actively opposing the military bases that dot our globe.

The Ethical Culture Society of Queens meets Sundays at 11 at the GardenSchool (visit www.queensethical.org or call 718-445-8515 for more information).

From NJ PeaceSites website:

The dread of nuclear war, and concern for future generations prompted the invention of an antonym for military sites--Peace Sites. It occurred to Louis Kousin, who became the Peace Sites coordinator, that military sites dot the landscape, not only in our country, but also in a considerable part of the world. Why not dot the landscapes with Peace Sites?

The Peace Site can be a creative, positive way of establishing a physical presence, to consolidate and expand peace work.

Now, with the prospect of a national anti-ballistic missile system, unraveling a generation of bilateral and multilateral peace-keeping treaties and of nuclearization and weaponization of space, the prospect of both greatly enhanced in the emotional response to the horrific September 11 attack, it is time to rededicate existing peace sites and create new ones - to raise our consciousness and be a public presence as a force for non-violent conflict resolution and nuclear disarmament.

Their existence is visible proof of the intelligent response of people to the dangers of the militarization of our society.

The Vigil for International Peace

Susana Bastarrica
President, UNSRC  Feng Shui Group

Hello Dear Friends:

The Vigil for International Peace Central Park Project is an international, transformational grassroots effort dedicated to promoting peace through nonviolent resolution. It is meant to demonstrate the power of prayer and intent as a way to heal; empowering our lives and our communities to achieve Peace.

Susana Bastarrica, founder organizer, has been instrumental in expanding the vision

of the Central Park Bandshell Vigil each year, this being reflected in the sheer

number of international artists participating to make each event unique and

vibrant.

In its 4th year, The Vigil for International Peace was inspired by The United

Nations 2001 resolution 55/282 designating September 21 of each year as an

"International Day of Peace" to have the entire world observe a full day of "global

ceasefire and nonviolence."

The event will commence around 9.00 a.m on September 18th 2005 with an Opening Ceremony of music and celebration. Throughout the day childrenıs choirs, artists, singers and musicians as well as representatives from world religions will contribute to our program of events. www.vigil4internationalpeace.org

Celebrate with us, bring your family and friends to fun and interactive art and musical presentations, dance festivals, peace meditations, speeches and talks by delegates, students and young people. Come and meet the many in our community who share the spirit of peace through prayer.

Kindly forward this information to your friends, and all those who might be interested in participating,

Thank you!!

Hannah Arendt's Notion of Forgiveness

Hannah Arendt wrote seven dense, suggestive pages in The Human Condition about "the power to forgive." In this lecture, sponsored by the VeraListCenter for Art and Politics as a part of the Considering Forgiveness series, Elisabeth Young-Bruehl comments on Arendt's reflections and builds upon them, raising questions about the implicit psychology and their political meanings. Dr. Young-Bruehl, now a psychoanalyst practicing in Manhattan, was Hannah Arendt's doctoral student at The New School and then her biographer (a second edition of Hannah Arendt: For Love of the World has recently been published by Yale University Press).

Considering Forgiveness Series

Rarely is political engagement viewed in terms of forgiveness. The willingness to confront injustice, to name and identify it, is by its nature a bold act. But injustice (and justice) define controversial and highly polarized realities--the accusers and the accused--while forgiveness encompasses a vast range of emotions and procedures and constitutes one of the most complex forms of human commitment. With history never completed, the work of remembering becomes an act of the present and a blueprint for the future. Considering the work of German artist Anselm Kiefer, art historian Andreas Huyssen stated that it examines the "unbearable tensions between the terror of German history and the intense longing to get beyond it." It is in this confrontation between the past and the future that forgiveness lies. Events are open to students and the public.

Tickets: Unless otherwise indicated, reservations may be made by e-mail to boxoffice@newschool.edu. Beginning Sept. 6, 2005, tickets can be ordered by phone with a credit card from (212) 229-5488 or in person at the New School Box Office, 66 West 12th Street, main floor, Monday-Thursday 1:00-8:00 p.m., Friday 1:00-7:00 p.m. Most events are free to all students and NSU alumni with ID.

COURAGE TO FORGIVE

The International Day of Peace

St. Peter's Church   6-7PM

16 Barclay Street (the Corner of Barclay and Church)

New YorkNY The United Religions Initiative, The Peace Alliance and the Sacred City Project will join together to observe the International Day of Peace on September 21.  The program, Courage to Forgive, will take place from 6-7 p.m. at St. Peterıs Catholic Church in Lower Manhattan at the edge of Ground Zero.  This evening event is open to the public and links New York with people around the world who are praying, doing community service projects and holding observances to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Rev. Lyndon Harris, Co-Chair with Dr. Frederic Luskin, (Director of Stanford Forgiveness Project and author of Forgive for Good) invite you join us as we honor the power of forgiveness to heal and renew lives.  Internationally acclaimed author, lecturer and founder of The Peace Alliance, Marianne Williamson, will offer spiritual guidance for a new life.  This event will launch the Garden of Forgiveness at Ground Zero project and we will pray for peace in all the nations of the world using the World Peace Flag Ceremony

On September 7, 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution 55/282 declaring September 21 of each year as the International Day of Peace. The resolution calls for this Day to be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, and invites all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities. Nine/eleven was the International Day of Peace in 2001.   That day was marked  first by horror and then by the many acts of compassion, love and peace seen as the rescue effort emerged.

One response to the destruction of the WorldTradeCenter was the opening of St. Paulıs Chapel to provide aid and sustenance to the rescue and relief workers.  For nine months, Reverend Harris organized that initiative and ensured that the workers had shelter, food, water and place to rest.

Please join us at to observe this 2005 International Day of Peace with our call to peace and forgiveness .  Participants may end the event by walking to the former WorldTradeCenter site.
